Help Us Refurbish the Heart of Wai Ora Marae

Wai Ora Marae’s kauta refurbishment is the beginning of our bigger aspirations for the marae – strengthening and preparing our space for the generations to come.

100 whānau donating $1,000 each will help us reach our fundraising goal of $100,000.

Kia ora e te whānau me ngā hoa mā,

Hokia ngā whakaaro ki onamata, hei whakau i nāianei, kia anga whakamua.
Look to the past, so we can understand the present and plan for the future.

We are reaching out with aroha to share an important kaupapa and invite our whānau and friends to support the future of Wai Ora Marae.

Wai Ora began as a community hall in the 1950s, when the Ngataki community and whānau from near and far fundraised to purchase the original building and transport it from Waihārara to where it stands today. In 1983, it was officially gazetted as a marae.

Over the years, Wai Ora Marae has supported our community through tangihanga, hura kōhatu, celebratory hui, health and housing wānanga, programmes for tamariki, and ngā Hāhi Whakamoemiti. Today, the marae also serves as a Civil Defence evacuation and emergency site.

Refurbishing Our Kauta

We have big plans for the future, but our buildings need upgrading so they can continue to support our whānau for generations to come.

We are beginning at the heart of our marae, with the refurbishment of the kauta. This kaupapa is deeply connected to our values, our people, and our future.

Our fundraising goal is $100,000, and we are inviting 100 whānau to contribute $1,000 each.

You decide what your whānau contribution looks like. It may come from you and your tamariki, a group of cousins, or your wider whānau. Contributions can be gathered together and donated under your whānau name.

Every koha, big or small, will make a difference. We also aim to match the contributions made by whānau with additional funding and a contribution from the marae.

Your generosity will directly support the refurbishment of the kauta and help ensure Wai Ora Marae can continue caring for our whānau and community into the future.
